We all have moments in our lives when we need support. Especially during these challenging times, meeting life’s demands is tough. Feeling stuck might be preventing you from moving forward and living your best life. You may be feeling overwhelmed, and it may seem like you’re facing more stress than you can handle. Therapy can give you the tools to get through life’s many challenges. It can offer you a way to let go of suffering, provide a sense of well-being, and allow you to learn, grow, and thrive despite what you’re facing. Making the decision to begin therapy is a healthy step toward making positive changes and moving toward creating the life you want for yourself. I have been trained in a variety of evidence-based practices, but since each person is unique, I will tailor my approach to your specific needs. My most important goal when we meet will be to create a safe, non-judgmental space for you to work toward healing, growth, improved self-awareness, and feeling good about yourself. Due to my background and experiences, I would especially enjoy the opportunity to work with nontraditional students, first-generation students, and international students. Please contact me today for your free initial 20-minute phone conversation. I look forward to hearing from you!
You might look like you have it all together on the outside, but feel overwhelmed, stuck, or constantly in your own head. Maybe you overthink everything or second guess yourself more than you'd like to admit. Does that sound familiar? Therapy with me is a place to be real, sort through what's going on, and start making meaningful changes (at a pace that actually feels manageable). We'll work towards a clearer understanding of yourself, more confidence in your decisions, and a greater sense of balance moving forward. It doesn't have to feel heavy all the time - we can bring honesty and even a little humor into the process. I specialize in anxiety, life transitions, and self-esteem using a CBT and trauma-informed approach. My work focuses on helping you understand patterns, build practical coping skills, navigate challenges more effectively, and create meaningful, lasting change. Therapy with me is supportive, collaborative, and real. Starting therapy can feel intimidating, and you don't have to have it all figured out (no one really does - not even me). If you are feeling overwhelmed or stuck, you're not alone. You don't need the "perfect" reason to start therapy - just showing up is enough. I'd love to connect and offer a space where you can be open and feel heard.
Welcome! While starting therapy may seem intimidating, you are not in this alone! Many of my clients use therapy to help them navigate trauma, relational issues, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and difficult life transitions. My approach is warm and collaborative, and I make sure your values guide the work we do together. I provide a safe and supportive space where we can explore your experiences and challenges at your pace. I believe that everyone has a unique story, and finding meaning in that story is an important step toward living a more fulfilling life. Life is not easy, but it should not always be a struggle. If you feel ready to make positive changes or if you feel like you would like some support, let me help you on your journey. I find it important to get to know a person deeply throughout sessions and even before. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns!
Welcome, I'm glad you are here. If you need a safe space to talk it out, I am here to listen. If you need to cry, yell, lament, or laugh I am here for it! I find it is beneficial, for those that I work with, to talk and to do. I often incorporate creative experiences, outdoor therapy, and movement as integral parts of the counseling process. I consider myself informal, personable, often humorous, and accepting of others. I'm looking forward to meeting you soon.
Have you recently experienced trauma or struggling with past trauma? I provide trauma-informed therapy in a way that is warm and engaging. Are you stumbling through the relentless bs of the last few years? Perhaps current events reopened old wounds or crushed you with crippling anxiety. I work with clients who are distressed, in pain, and ready for relief - who go between feeling incredibly tense or just numb. I treat different types of trauma with a focus on complex childhood trauma. Together, we'll identify the source of your pain and find ways to help you heal so that you can feel and function better. Often that looks like improved relationships, a calm mind, relaxed body, and a clearer vision about what you want to accomplish moving forward.
Everyone Needs A Support System Perhaps you'd like to explore relationship dynamics, unresolved trauma, anxiety, depression or simply navigating the after affects of a global pandemic? I firmly believe that the connection you feel with your therapist is critical. You are the expert of your own story. I want to offer a guiding hand and empathetic ear, never defining your path but walking beside you.

Hello, and welcome. My name is Kathleen McGah and I offer a comfortable, confidential space for teens, college-age students and young adults to talk about whatever is on their mind, at one's own pace, and without judgment. When people have a safe place to practice putting thoughts and feelings into words, they find they grow psychologically stronger over time - and more satisfied with various aspects of life. I have worked with many students who, initially, have been hesitant to talk with a professional. (Even if one has had a counseling experience in the past, it can still be difficult to start with a new therapist.) It makes sense if you have some hesitation about taking this step. Only you will know if you are ready. If you have been struggling and think it would be good to meet with a therapist, though, please reach out.
We must partner together to help you gain insight into your own experience and life. You’ll often hear me guiding clients to their own answers through questions like: What do you actually need in this moment? Is there another way to express yourself that feels authentic to you? What are you missing out in life because of this avoidance strategy? Is there anything familiar to you about that reaction/response? Go Inward, Gain Strength One of my strengths is meeting the person where they are in their lives. This has come naturally to me and has been reinforced throughout my career as a helping professional. It is incredibly powerful to work with my clients to create change and witness them build confidence in themselves. If someone is super motivated and ready to work through their stuff, I can do that. If someone isn’t there yet and they need to problem solve marriage issues and don’t want to dig into the past, I can support that too. Therapy with me is a collaborative process. You determine the pace, the goal, the direction. My passion is utilizing Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) as an intervention to help you go inward and find your solutions. You are the best expert in your life and I urge you to understand and trust your gut reaction. EMDR is an intervention that is particularly effective for helping individuals who have experienced distressing events; and there is strong data supporting the use of EMDR to alleviate symptoms of OCD, suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety, and shifting negative core beliefs. My experience also includes working with individuals who have experienced trauma. This includes individuals who use or have used substances to cope. I have worked as an in-home therapist to children and families. This experience provided an up close look at the family system and the impact of trauma on that system. With Awareness, Comes Growth You can generate happiness and contentment from within yourself. It is possible to be calm and set boundaries with others. You can learn to identify the things that have shaped you and understand how this impacts your automatic responses. Allow me to partner with you to gain awareness into yourself, validate your instincts and grow your confidence.
You're exhausted from giving 100% to everything, but having nothing leftover for yourself. You hate disappointing anyone & have a hard time asking for what you need. You're not alone & life doesn't have to feel this way. Together we can figure out ways to help you feel more empowered, change unhelpful patterns, & create a life you love. I help women manage general/social anxiety & depression, while improving boundaries, relationships & embracing who they are. I enjoy working with vetmed/animal care professionals, teachers, & college students who need help coping with burnout, compassion fatigue, & work/life balance. Do you find yourself having strong emotional responses to past events? Are you struggling to “Let go” or “Move on” from painful experiences? A typical Enduring Strength Counseling client is someone between the ages of 20-35, possibly a member of the military community, who answered yes to the questions above and is ready to begin their mental health journey but do not want to deal with the constraints and limitations of insurance companies. My clients pay for services directly and feel greater comfort and peace of mind to engage in counseling knowing that their care will not be denied.
Carolina Counseling currently has two therapists that use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help individuals understand how their feelings, thoughts and behaviors are all connected. They both listen without judging and offer a safe place where you can come and share whatever is needed. One therapist offers a Christian perspective if desired.
