Therapists for college students near Durham, NC
Forming yourself into the adult you are going to be for the rest of your life can be stressful. Managing academics, extracurricular activities, relationships, and social life while planning for your future after college can be super overwhelming at times. I work collaboratively with you to help you learn to cope better with life's stressors, reduce symptoms of mental health, enjoy healthier relationships, and set and achieve your goals. Knowing your values, what's important to you, and following your passions, separate from what others want from you is important and presents challenges. We will help you figure out how best to live the life you most desire.
Sometimes life can become shadowed by trauma, identity struggles, anxiety, depression, or family challenges. I work with adolescents, young adults, LGBTQIA+ clients, pregnant and postpartum people, and culturally diverse communities to gently navigate these shadows through healing, helping relationship. Together, we’ll explore the stories that shape you, honor the experiences that have brought both struggle and strength, and uncover the light within — creating a path toward healing, clarity, empowerment, and hope. Through narrative, somatic, DBT, IFS, and expressive arts therapies, I help you explore the darker places inside you, while nurturing growth and resilience. My approach is warm, collaborative, and affirming — guiding you toward understanding, empowerment, and a brighter sense of possibility. Therapy can feel intimidating as we begin to face the darkest chapters of our stories. I offer a compassionate, safe space to be seen and heard. Together, we’ll navigate challenges, honor your experiences, and uncover the light, strength, and hope already within you.

Hey! I'm Samantha. I help high achieving teens and adults who are experiencing anxiety while trying to manage life stressors (relationships changes, work/school stress, self esteem issues, etc). Sometimes college doesn't go as planned. You had a vision in your head of what this time of your life would be like, but the reality is totally different. You find yourself worrying often, struggling in social situations, and fearing that any decision you make can set you on the wrong future path. Anxiety can take over your life and feel all consuming. You don't have to figure it all out on your own! I provide online anxiety therapy in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Being a goal oriented person who feels pressured to succeed is something I can relate to. I'm excited to meet you and help you work towards unlocking your best self through therapy!
College can bring a lot: new freedom, pressure to succeed, and the stress of figuring out who you are and where you are headed. Many of the students I work with feel weighed down by anxiety, burnout, overthinking, imposter syndrome, or the pressure to be perfect. Others are coping with ADHD, past/current trauma, anxiety and social anxiety or just the everyday stress of classes, relationships, and big transitions. With 12 years of experience working in university counseling centers, I have a deep understanding of the unique challenges of college and graduate students' lives. In our work together, you will find a supportive space to talk honestly about what is on your mind, learn coping tools to manage stress, and feel more grounded and confident. My goal is to help you feel less alone and more able to handle the challenges of college life.
Many of the clients I work with share a deep sense of responsibility for others and struggle to feel permission to rest, take up space, or express their own needs. They’re often self-aware and thoughtful but find themselves stuck in old patterns of people-pleasing, over-functioning, or self-criticism. My clients are usually seeking relief from anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and disconnection from self, longing instead for steadiness, self-trust, and relationships that feel mutual and safe.
My work is grounded in the belief that no two people, and no two relationships, are alike in their stories and needs. As a result, therapy with me is highly personalized, and my priority will always be to understand you and/or your relationship within the context of your unique life experiences, beliefs, and goals. I approach therapy as a collaborative, human process and offer a nonjudgmental space for you to be present with yourself, rather than perform. In my experience, this freedom to be you paves the way for the curiosity, insight, and healing needed for real transformation. Though I see clients of all ages and stages, I specialize in working with young adults and couples to build or strengthen their relationships with themselves and others. Anxiety, depression, challenging life transitions, low self-esteem, conflict with friends or family, and issues related to sexuality and intimacy are just a few of the concerns that we can explore and work through together. Using a whole-person, integrative approach, I hope to help you process what’s happening now, while laying the foundation for a more aligned and connected future. If you are looking for a therapist with big-sister energy, you found me! My style is both deeply compassionate and direct, often with a side of dark humor and always underlined by a commitment to ongoing learning. I know I’ve done my job well when you feel both truly understood and gently challenged toward lasting change. If you are considering therapy, I welcome the opportunity to learn more about your story and how I can help you move toward the life and relationships you want.

Navigating the transition to college and early adulthood can be exciting, but it can also be incredibly stressful and overwhelming. Are you struggling to manage the pressures of academics, relationships, or being away from home? Do you find yourself constantly worrying, feeling down, or having difficulty sleeping? Are you experiencing conflict with parents, peers, or even professors? Are you questioning whether college is the right path for you, or if you're pursuing it due to external pressure? Present. Calm. Centered. Your authentic YOU. These are the things you may be longing for yet sometimes feel out of reach. Life can bring about storms and seasons of hardship that leave their mark on our human spirits. Sometimes we can find our center, yet other times we may feel lost in the seas of emotions - worries and anxieties that sweep us from our connections to ourselves and those we care about. Maybe you experienced painful moments in your youth or adult life that you just can’t find a way to shake. Or maybe you find yourself caught in certain patterns of responses despite knowing you value interacting with yourself or others differently. Maybe you hope to gain more confidence in yourself to follow your dreams. I am deeply honored to explore these thoughts, feelings, and experiences with you, so that you can draw new connections to live the life you want to lead. I work with adult individuals (18 years and up) and have experience with a variety of different presenting concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and addictions. I offer a nurturing person-centered approach where I believe you are truly the expert in your own life. My aim is to use my professional training to collaborate with you on reaching your goals. I use a variety of counseling approaches including motivational interviewing, mindfulness, CBT and brainspotting. With this, I often interweave somatic/body based awareness, emotional attunement and cognitive aspects into the work we engage in together. I also recognize the decision to choose to start counseling can be a vulnerable and difficult one. I believe a strong therapeutic alliance is the most important aspect for supporting therapy outcomes (research supports this too!). I aim to create an environment with elements of empathy, non-judgment, compassion and humor. And if you wind up finding my therapeutic style is not the best fit for your needs, I am glad to support you in getting connected with another therapist.
Though my therapeutic approach may vary slightly from person to person, it is always my priority to provide a safe, comfortable, welcoming environment where you feel secure in navigating life’s many ups and downs. I believe that a trusting, authentic relationship between client and therapist is the key to progress, so you’ll find that I also show up to the therapy room with authenticity, compassion, acceptance, and sometimes a little humor. I enjoy taking a laid back, curious approach to therapy so I can work to more fully understand an individual’s unique lived experience.
I am a counselor at Blue Ridge EXA, an integrative care practice where we specialize in grief, life transitions, and the effects of medical trauma. In our sessions, you can expect a person-centered and integrative approach, one that honors your inner knowing while gently exploring the patterns and stories that shape your experience. I work with those who are experiencing the effects of trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and navigating times of uncertainty and change. I am an expressive arts therapist, and offer a compassionate, safe place to explore your experience.

Do you feel anxious and find your mind constantly worrying? Do you feel sad, down and hopeless? Do you find yourself struggling and stressed with the demands of everyday life? These feelings can be overwhelming and upsetting. I am here to support you as you work towards exploring, processing and learning how to better cope with these feelings. I specialize in the area of adolescents (18+), college students, graduate students and young adults with concerns related to anxiety, depression, relationships, school, careers, self-esteem and life transitions. I focus on the importance of building a therapeutic relationship by providing clients with a safe, non-judgmental space to explore and process their thoughts and emotions. I believe that clients have hidden strengths which can be revealed, allowing them to have the power to make positive changes and improve their quality of their life. I look forward to hearing from you!
I believe there is no true beginning or end to Healing, working on ourselves, or trying to have forward motion in our lives (but that it DOES get better!), so any entry point into counseling as a tool in those processes is the right one. /"This is heart work, and you can't think your way around this; you've gotta feel your way through it." / /"The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind."/ The therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance. I will ask you to face hard things in our work together, so I expect of myself that same call for transparency and authenticity- I do my best to live out Brene Brown's concept of "getting in the arena" with you. I also try to instill hope and light (I know I sure need it); we will also laugh! Healing requires both grit and softness. This work is such an honor, and it has become built into the fiber of my being. Please come as you are- I hope you can trust yourself to take the next step, no matter how many steps have already been taken or how many you feel have yet to be taken.

I can support you in working through a multitude of things from perfectionism, stress management, relationship struggles, trauma, and chronic suicidal ideation or struggles with self harm.
