Therapists for college students near Boulder, CO
Hi, I'm Jonathan. I'm a down-to-earth, easygoing guy. Beyond that, I'm also a therapist. I often find myself working well with those hoping to get more out of life, whether that involves building confidence, developing good relationships, creating positive habits, understanding your identities, or adjusting to new life circumstances. I'll listen without judgment to really understand you, but also gently push you to be the best version of yourself. After all, we're here to solve problems and find solutions. While therapy can look a lot of different ways, I've found that transparency, humor, and consistency are a few of the key ingredients. Personally, I have felt how transformative therapy can be (despite my initial skepticism). My hope is to be able to offer that to others too. You can connect with me by phone, email, or my website to schedule a free consultation. Let's see if we're a good fit.

It is hard to look forward to your day when you feel stuck or burdened. With your energy reserves drained and coping strategies stretched thin, you may feel raw or wonder how to stay afloat. It doesn’t help when there’s plenty of advice suggesting “think positive” or simply “let it go.” Those words just add insult to injury. We offer support with trauma, anxiety & panic, LGBTQIA struggles, self-esteem, relationship challenges, depression or bipolar issues, as well as help through grief, loss, or transition. At Side By Side Counseling, you have someone in your corner with the expertise to help. Whether you need clarity and direction, or ways to heal the impacts of trauma, there is the support you need to make the progress you want. Together we will develop a plan so that every step is designed to bring relief, build resiliency, and renew your sense of hope.
Who I work with: - People who are fired up and ready to do this - “Refugees” from conventional eating disorder treatment who are ready to finally get to the root of the issue - Folks with some sass, fire, and rebelliousness (with a soft and sensitive core) - Quirky go-getters, nerds and misfits, and outsiders with undercover witchy tendencies - People who want better relationships, emotional resiliency skills, and a healthier relationship with food and their body - People who’ve tried talk therapy and have an inkling there’s something more: a deeper, more soulful connection to themselves and all their inner parts. *I welcome folks of all identities and sizes How I work: Is it frustrating for you when people tell you to “just let it go” or “be kinder to yourself”? As if there were some switch you could flip…if you just weren’t so stubborn / clueless / goofy. First up: there is no such switch. (If there were, someone would have patented it by now). Second up: suggestions like this, no matter how well-intentioned, almost never work. They can also leave us feeling frustrated and like failures. Self-compassion and emotional healing are trickier than most people (or cutesy magnets) would have you believe. Myth: Just talk through why you feel this way and you problem will vanish. Truth: Real healing takes more than head-knowing. It’s a whole-bodied affair. This is why typical talk therapy - where you come in, sit on a couch, share how you feel - often falls short. You leave feeling like "ok, I feel a little better, but now what?" So I work a little differently. Still talk, still insight, but more connection to body, intuition, and emotions. We get beyond the "why" and get to the actual "how" of real change. You can read more about my approach at www.stephaniesmallhealth.com. I’m a licensed clinical social worker and nutritionist. I received my BA from Yale University, my MSW from Smith College for Social work, and certificates in Holistic Nutrition Education and Mental Health Nutrition from Bauman College and the Academy for Addiction and Mental Health Nutrition. I ran the nutrition program at a substance abuse recovery center in Denver for two years and have trained in trauma therapy, internal parts work, somatic therapies, and more. I currently maintain a private practice online and in Boulder and Denver, CO, write for national and local publications, consult for mental health agencies and substance abuse recovery centers, and speak at live events.
You know that you’ve worked so hard to get to where you are today — but you still struggle with feeling not good enough. You’ve had to hide aspects of your true self in order to fit in. At times, it feels like you’re living behind a mask; like no one understands the real you. Relationships are a struggle. You’re used to compromising your needs to please others, and it’s leading to burnout. You seek genuine connection, but it’s hard to open up and trust others. You’re ready to find a better way forward - toward more joy and less stress. I'm here to support you. In our therapy work together, you will gain the skills and support to regulate difficult emotions, heal from the past, and build a brighter present and future. Let's work together to create the change that you've been seeking.
I believe in empowering my clients to access and to unfold to their own inner wisdom and brilliance. Rather than providing all the answers or solutions, I facilitate a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can investigate their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My academic journey has taken me to many different countries, and I am passionate about combining my interest in western psychology with the ancient wisdom of Buddhist psychology. I earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Canterbury University, New Zealand (2009) and her master’s degree in motivational psychology from the University in Zurich, Switzerland (2012). She also holds an additional master's degree from Naropa University in contemplative psychology. I bring my unique blend of experiences to her work. Among other adventures, I have worked in Zanskar Valley in Ladakh, Northern India and has studied psychology in Nepal, Indian. I have also taught Yoga and Yoga therapy to athletes. I take a trauma informed approach to therapy, combining her training in Somatic Experiencing with other contemplative approaches as well as elements of IFS, Polyvagal, solution focused therapy, and positive psychology. I would like to tell you about my practice. I offer a warm, relaxed environment for exploring what may be difficult issues. It is my belief that your wisdom combined with my experience and openness can lead to a life of more joy and freedom. I have been working with individuals, couples, and groups in the counseling psychotherapy field since 1994. It has been a privilege and joy to watch so many couples find their way back to intimacy, so many individuals find relief in what may be tormenting them, so many others find joy and fulfillment in their lives. My approach to therapy is client-centered. I draw from humanistic psychology, somatic psychotherapy, existential psychology and philosophy, gestalt therapy and psychodynamic theories. Which simply means I work with the body, choices, and meaning making. I invite you into the room with me, all of you, including the aspects of yourself that you may have difficulties with. Therapy is a form of play where one experiments with ways of being. In doing this you begin to discover and ultimately let go of what is getting in the way of having a full rich and joyful life. You will discover a multitude of choices of how to approach life and relationships. You will find the opportunity to step into your freedom. This leads to more openness, presence, and creativity.
Life is challenging and confusing, especially during a time like right now. Given the pandemic, many of us are attempting to find normalcy in an extremely abnormal situation. Everyday life has become even more stressful, it's harder to be in relationship, and finding moments of "okay" might be few and far between. Having your own space to talk about your experiences, whether dealing with the present situation or managing old wounds, is not only important but beneficial for maintaining our mental health. I work with adolescents, young adults and adults on a variety of issues. Primarily, I help clients by bringing attention to the storylines we have created (and will continue to create) about ourselves that cause pain, distress, and disconnection. These stories might look like: I am not [fill in the blank] enough; I should be happier/more successful/less afraid; I am unworthy of love; I can't manage life on life's terms; I’m an outsider. Uncovering these storylines and reframing them is the beginning to living a different life, one that feels, well frankly, better.

I draw from a variety of treatment modalities, including: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Compassion Focused Therapy Dialectical Behavior Therapy Interpersonal Therapy I am supportive therapist who listens well and consistently encourages people to address the issues that brought them to therapy. Hi! I’m Jeanette. I’m a licensed professional counselor in Colorado with over a decade of experience in the mental health field. Before starting my private practice in 2018 I worked in several different inpatient as well as outpatient settings including inpatient psychiatric units and emergency rooms. I have worked with all ages but I currently focus on working with teens, college students, and younger adults up to age 45 or so. I practice mainly from person-centered standpoints which emphasizes everyone’s innate ability to change and grow. I have worked extensively with survivors of trauma, and am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I am very passionate about physical activity and the importance of integrating it into everyone’s daily routine. I also emphasize the role of nutrition for mental wellness and am currently receiving additional training in this area. Our brains are a part of our body and any mental health treatment should include significant time to ensure that you are also in good physical health. On the personal side, I am married and have three great kids ranging in age from preschool to high school. Whenever I get a chance, I’m out walking my dogs, Skips and Teegan. I’ve lived in Arvada for the past 15 years and, while I’m not a native, I definitely consider Colorado home.
Hi I'm Malia. New to therapy? I've got you. My aim is to create an environment that fosters trust, empathy, and open communication, allowing clients to express themselves freely and work towards positive change. I work with clients who are going through life transitions. Life transitions are common and often support is helpful; whether that is a new relationship, big move, school or career path, or if you are experiencing new, unexpected emotions in your life. I understand that these moments can be both exhilarating and daunting, and I am committed to providing the necessary tools and support to navigate them confidently.
I help clients feel less anxious and more authentic in their relationships. I believe that many people experience struggle in their lives as a result of growing distant from their emotional compasses. I work with individual clients and couples to reconnect with these aspects of their experiences. While I work with clients of all genders, I hold a particular interest and expertise in working with men. I approach sessions with a compassion, humor, and directness. In my experience, change begins when we observe the way our patterns continue to lead to distress in our lives. I help clients identify approaches to shifting these patterns. Through this process, clients often find themselves feeling more authentic and fulfilled in their relationships. If you are interested in the approach described here, please reach out. I would love to hear from you.
